  • SfP Book Club – „Palestinian Women’s Activism: Nationalism, Secularism, Islamism“ by Islah Jad

We are going to read and discuss with the book “Palestinian Women’s Activism: Nationalism, Secularism, Islamism” by historian and activist Islah Jad. While crucial in Palestinian struggles already before the British Mandate, Palestinian women’s experience and influence are often belittled in many traditional narratives. On the other hand, by deliberately ignoring their voices and negating their agency, the West and the Zionist regime keeps portraying a negative image of the Palestinian struggle and promoting white saviourism and imperialist agenda with the excuse of saving Palestinian women, without basic understanding of the local women’s agency and their heterogeneous voices.

By reading this book together, we hope to understand better Palestinian women’s various experience and theoretical innovations, as well as the different approaches Palestinian women have been taking in the collective struggle of their people and their fighting within the Palestinian societies.Trigger warning: Rape, Murder. We will meet again on the second Saturday of September, 12.09!Send us a DM ahead of time if you want to come or to get access to the book!

Whether you’re Palestinian, curious to learn, or just looking to meet new people with the same goal and love for liberation, you’re welcome.

A small note: If you do bring food, please make sure it’s clearly labelled (halal, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc.) so everyone can feel comfortable and included.
